About Us

Quantic Evans, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quantic™ Electronics since 2020, is an AS9100/ISO 9001 certified developer and manufacturer of high-reliability, power dense capacitors. Its products provide superior size, weight, power and reliability specifications, enabling customers to develop next-generation electronic systems for aerospace, defense and industrial applications.

Quantic Evans, formerly known as Evans Capacitor Company, was founded in 1996 by its President Dave Evans and CEO Charlie Dewey. After extensive research and experimentation, Dave Evans discovered that combining the two capacitor technologies tantalum and ruthenium oxide yielded the most power dense capacitor in the industry. These hybrid capacitors, known as EVANSCAPS, provide significant savings of space and weight compared to other capacitor technologies, in a high reliability ruggedized package providing MTBF > 5 million hours.

EVANSCAPS are specified for mission-critical aerospace, defense, and energy exploration applications including radar, laser, power hold-up/bridge power, downhole drilling, electronic warfare and more. EVANSCAPS replace standard military capacitors, and/or augment batteries and power supplies where size, weight, reliability and quality are critical factors in component selection.

Quantic Evans' production facilities, located in East Providence RI, and Sanford ME, USA follow the most stringent guidelines for quality and performance. All Quantic Evans products undergo extensive testing and evaluation.

EVANSCAPS are qualified and in service with all tier 1 aerospace and defense contractors. Quantic Evans welcomes the opportunity to work directly with engineers and product designers to help solve their application challenges and achieve their goals to develop next-generation electronic systems for aerospace, defense and industrial applications.

Each pulser contains its own local energy storage capacitor bank consisting of 3 Evans Capacitor Company TDD3125452 4500uF/125VDC tantalum Hybrid capacitors and their associated bleeder resistors. The capacitors deserve special note as they are a major enabling technology that reduces the volume of the capacitor bank by at least a factor of three while providing better ripple current characteristics and superior cooling compared to standard electrolytic devices. The use of these capacitors allows the incorporation of 100J of energy storage in approximately 3.5 cubic inches.

The Temperature testing completed Monday. I’ll send initial conditions and results in a few days, but if someone else had shown me the data, I wouldn’t believe it. The C, ESR and ESL results look too good to be real. These caps are being presented to a USG customer as the technology enabler (for a BFL) on the 12th. Amazing, totally amazing.

If impressing us was your intent, consider us impressed! With an ESR that low, you are going to make us re-think how we design with these capacitors. The current shunts we use are 1–2mΩ. It would be stupid to use a 2mΩ current shunt with a 5mΩ capacitor.
